In the first ever final of World Cup, West Indies beat Australia by 17 runs to claim their World Champion title. On 21st June 1975 at Lord's, West Indies were asked to bat first by Australian captain Ian Chappell. Clive Llyod led from the front and scored a brilliant century for his team to set a cometitive target of 292 for Australia. His innings of 102 came in just 85 balls and included 12 fours and 2 sixes.

The Australian innings was marked by top-order batsmen being run out when going for runs after misfields. A total of five of their team were run out, three by Vivian Richards. Australia lost the match by 17 runs

After a brilliant century, Clive Llyod ran out Ian Chappell and subsequently took the wicket of Walters. His allround performance along with sharp captaincy earned him the Man of the Match award.
