Rajkot, November 12 (CRICKETNMORE) After helping England take a slender 49-run first innings lead with his four wickets, leg-spinner Adil Rashid on Saturday said the visitors will need to put runs on the board when they walk out on the final morning of the first Test against India here on Sunday.
Rashid took 4/114 in his 31 overs while his fellow spinners Zafar Ansari and Moeen Ali chipped in with two wickets apiece as England bundled out the hosts for 488 at tea on the penultimate day at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
Coming in to bat after the tea session, England openers Alastair Cook (46 not out) and Haseeb Hameed (62 not out) gave the visitors a solid start with an unbeaten 114-run opening stand to extend their lead to 163 runs.
Hailing the debutant opener Hameed for his brilliant knock, Adil said: "It was a crucial partnership, hopefully they can carry on tomorrow. Haseeb knows his game, he works hard in the nets."
Commenting on his own efforts in the first essay, he said: "I felt okay, it was nice to get a long bowl and get into a rhythm. I think it was a little more field placing and lengths to bowl, and working batsmen out."
"We've got to come back tomorrow morning, put the runs on the board, and see what happens," he added.
