Bhopal, 2 February। Madhya Pradesh have dropped cricketer Rameez Khan from their Ranji Trophy squad as he was arrested for allegedly killing a black buck near Sagar district.

Earlier, the all-rounder was named in the state squad which will lock horns with Bengal in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final in Mumbai on February 3.

"We have not selected Rameez for the Ranji squad as he is not available because he is in jail in connection with the alleged killing of a black buck," Milind Kanmadikar, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) secretary, was quoted as saying by a website on Tuesday.

Rameez, along with his father and two other associates, was taken into custody under the Wildlife Protection Act on January 10. Reportedly the remains of the animal, a rifle, a knife and a few live cartridges were found in their possession.

Sagar district's Divisional Forest Officer Shivprasad Tiwari said that all four of the accused were in judicial custody and that their bail pleas were rejected by the court.
