Dhaka, Nov 22 - Comilla Victorians captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will play against Dhaka Dynamites in the opening cricket match of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) despite his injury.

Mashrafe sustained an ankle injury during his team's training on Friday. He skipped practice on Saturday but worked out in the gym with tape rolled around his feet, a news website reported.

"There is still a slight pain but I can play with that. It is important for the captain to be on the field in the first match," the strapping pacer told the news website over the phone.

"I will definitely play if nothing new develops."

Having won the first two editions as the captain of Dhaka Gladiatiors, Mashrafe has the opportunity to win a hat-trick of BPL titles this edition.

"Definitely playing to be champions. But I don't want to look too far ahead right now, just taking it a match at a time."

The match is set to start on Sunday evening.

Rangpur Riders will play against Chittagong Vikings in the BPL opener at 2pm on the same day.
