BCCI announces umpires, match referees' workshops dates

Mumbai, Aug 20- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the dates for the umpires' and match referees' workshops to be held in August-September.

The umpires' workshop will be held in six batches in Chennai from August 24 to September 4, while the match referees' workshop will be held in two batches in Nagpur from September 6 to 9.

The umpires' workshops will be held Aug 24-25, Aug 26-27, Aug 28-29, Aug 30-31, Sept 1-2 and Sept 3-4.

The match referees' workshops will be held Sept 6-7 and Sept 8-9.

"The BCCI is committed to eradicating the suspect action bowling from Indian domestic cricket. Educational workshops regarding the same have been planned at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC), an International Cricket Council (ICC) accredited Biomechanical Bowling Action Testing centre in Chennai, where the umpires will witness the practical testing of bowlers live under the guidance of Simon Taufel," BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said in a release.

"The former ICC Elite umpire will guide the Indian umpires on what to look for with respect to a bowler’s action to ascertain if it is illegal or suspect," Thakur said.

The BCCI secretary also added the elevation of Sundaram Ravi to the ICC Elite panel will motivate the other Indian umpires to achieve further excellence and progress in their careers.

He also promised complete support from BCCI to help the Indian umpires achieve their goals.
