Dubai, 6 November (CRICKETNMORE) - England fast bowler Stuart Broad has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the fourth day’s play in the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town on Tuesday.
The incident happened in the 195th over of South Africa’s innings when Broad showed dissent by twice telling Aleem Dar to ‘just get on with the game’ after the on-field umpires had warned England skipper Alastair Cook about the fast bowler damaging the pitch by kicking it in frustration following a dropped catch by Jonny Bairstow which reprieved Temba Bavuma.
Broad pleaded not guilty to the charge. As such, Ranjan Madugalle of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees conducted a formal hearing after the day’s play and subsequently found him guilty as charged.
The player was found to have breached Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.
For all first offences, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee.
