The former English captain surprised everyone during his knock as he played a gutsy reverse scoop shot against Tim Southee for a six!
After a 141-run partnership between Alex Lees (67) and Ollie Pope (145) for the second wicket, Joe Root joined Pope in the middle and etched a partnership of 187 runs for the third wicket. While England lost wickets on the other end, Joe Root remained unbeaten throughout Day 3 as he ended the day on 163*.
