Gujarat Prisons Dept: The Gujarat Prisons and Correctional Administration Department won the overall championship at the DGP Cup 2026-27 Wrestling Cluster Competition in Nadiad, securing 13 medals, including six gold, six silver and one bronze.
The competition, held at the Nadiad Sports Complex, brought together 22 teams from across Gujarat and featured contests in wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, arm wrestling and boxing.
The strong showing by the prison department across all four disciplines secured it the Champion Trophy.
In wrestling, department athletes won two gold and two silver medals. Captain Raghubhai Patel and Divya Chauhan claimed gold, while Tarunsingh Dahiya and Nagabhai Karangiya won silver.
Mahirhasan Shaikh also represented the department in the discipline. The department added another gold and a silver in Greco-Roman wrestling. Mahipalsingh Mori won gold, while captain Raghubhai Patel secured silver.
Arm wrestling produced five more medals for the department. Tarunsingh Dahiya won gold, while MahmadMansur Mansuri, Dharmisthaben Vala and Mahirhasan Shaikh secured silver medals.
Nagabhai Karangiya won bronze. In boxing, Nikulbhai Thakor won gold, further contributing to the department's medal tally.
Congratulating the participating personnel, DGP (Prisons and Correctional Services) Dr K.L.N. Rao said the performance reflected the dedication and discipline of the department's personnel.

The department's performance across the different combat sports resulted in its overall victory at the DGP Cup 2026-27 Wrestling Cluster Competition.

Dr Rao has served in senior prison administration roles in Gujarat and continued to hold charge of the Prisons and Correctional Administration after being appointed DGP, CID (Crime and Railways), in 2025.
