Australia batted first and post 284 on board giving a daunting task of 285 for Team India to win the match. To qualify for the finals of Coca Cola Cup 1996, India India either needed to win the match or required to score 254 runs against mighty Australian attack. Because of desert storm, India's target was revised to 276 to win and 237 to qualify. Though India lost the match but Sachin played the innings of his lifetime ensuring a birth for his team in the final of the tournament. Sachin got out for a well made 143 off 131 balls which included 9 fours and 5 sixes.
