Hobart Hurricanes batsman Dawid Malan smashed 75 runs to take his team to 164/5 against Melbourne Stars in the first innings of the 23rd match in Big Bash League(BBL).

Earlier, Stars captain Glenn Maxwell won the toss and put Hurricanes to bat. Hobart got off to a strong start despite losing D'Arcy Short early in the innings.

Ben McDermott and Dawid Malan added 82 runs for the second wicket, setting up a strong base for a huge total. However, Billy Stanlake's twin strikes in the 14th over changed the game. 

Hurricanes couldn't increase the scoring rate up. Colin Ingram played a good cameo of 26 runs in 12 balls with help of three sixes and a four.
