Asian Games: India Men Aim To Defend Hockey Gold, Women Look To Carry Momentum
Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium: The Indian men's and women's hockey teams will kick off their respective campaigns at the Asian Games 2026 on Sunday, seeking strong results after contrasting World Cup performances.
The Indian men's team, pitted in Pool A, will start their gold-medal defence against Indonesia at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara after a lowly eighth-place finish in the World Cup 2026. The women's team will be in action against Uzbekistan at the same venue in its opening Pool B outing after a strong World Cup campaign.
There is an added incentive for the sport at the Asian Games, with gold medal winners securing their tickets for the 2028 Olympics, a prospect that will be in mind for both the Harmanpreet Singh-led men's and Salima Tete-led women's sides.
