T20 World Cup 2022: The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup is set to start on October 16th, where 16 teams will clash against each other for the prestigious title. Round 1 will start on October 16th, whereas the Super 12 stage will commence on October 22nd. 

The batters will look to take on the challenge of pace bowling-friendly pitches in Australia and score big for their teams. Let's have a look at the top 5 batters with the highest individual scores in T20 World Cup history.

#5. Tamim Iqbal (103* vs Oman)

In a first-round match of the T20 World Cup 2016 at Dharamsala, Bangladesh were put in to bat first against Oman. After that, opener Tamim Iqbal smashed an unbeaten 103 runs off 63 balls, laced with 10 fours & 5 sixes as Bangladesh posted 180/2 in 20 overs. After a rain-induced break, Oman had a target of 120 runs in 12 overs and were halted to 65/9, losing the match by 54 runs.

#4. Ahmed Shahzad (111* vs Bangladesh)

After Pakistan won the toss & opted to bat first against Bangladesh in Group 2 match at Mirpur in T20 World Cup 2014, opener Ahmed Shehzad smashed an unbeaten 111 runs in 62 balls with 10 fours & 5 sixes. Courtesy of this, Pakistan posted 190/5 in 20 overs. Pakistan went on to stop Bangladesh at 140/7 in 20 overs, winning the match by 50 runs.

#3. Alex Hales (116* vs Sri Lanka)

Chasing 190 runs against Sri Lanka in the Group 1 match of T20 World Cup 2014 at Chattogram, England lost opener, Michael Lumb, for a 5-ball duck, followed by #3 Moeen Ali for a golden duck. However, Alex Hales stood on one end as he smacked an unbeaten 116 runs off 64 balls with 11 fours & 6 sixes as England chased down the target in the 20th over with 6 wickets in hand.

#2. Chris Gayle (117 vs South Africa)

In the opening match of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, West Indies opener Chris Gayle announced his excellence in the shortest format. The West Indian opener smashed 117 runs off 57 balls with 7 fours & 10 sixes at a strike rate of 205.26, powering his team to 205/6 in 20 overs. However, South Africa managed to chase down the target with 14 balls remaining and win the match by 8 wickets.

New Zealand explosive batter Brendon McCullum ranks atop this list with his knock against Bangladesh in T20 World Cup 2012. After being put in to bat first, New Zealand lost Martin Guptill (11) in the 4th over. Brendon McCullum, batting at #3, smashed 123 runs off 58 balls with 11 fours & 7 sixes before getting dismissed on the last bowl of the innings. Courtesy of this, New Zealand posted 191/3 in 20 overs and went on to win the match by 59 runs.
