Indian players have always faced a challenge whenever they've travelled to South Africa to play cricket. Even though India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007, the excessive bounce and pace has always troubled the sub-continent batters. 

However, there have been Indian batters who managed to find their rhythm in South Africa. As we near the commencement of the India tour of South Africa, let's have a look at top run-scorers for India in South Africa since 2011, across all formats.

5. MS Dhoni

The former Indian captain, who led team India to T20 World Cup 2007 victory in South Africa. In the top run-scorers list for Indians in South Africa since 2011, Dhoni has registered 405 runs to his name in 20 innings with the highest score of 65. 5.31 with a strike rate of 72.06 and 2 fifties.


4. Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane, who has been removed from the vice-captaincy of the Indian test side ahead of the tour to South Africa, has registered 414 runs to his name in 12 innings, averaging 41.40 and a strike rate of 56.25, with 3 half-centuries. 


3. Rohit Sharma

The newly appointed Limited Overs captain & test vice-captain Rohit Sharma comes next on the list with 464 runs to his name in 25 innings. However, his average of 18.56 doesn't justify this 3rd spot. He has 1 half-century & 1 century to his name in South Africa.


2. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan has always found it easier than the rest to tackle the bouncy bitches in South Africa and is the 2nd highest run-scorer for India in South Africa since 2011. The southpaw has registered 586 runs in 17 innings, averaging 36.62 with a strike rate of 92.28. He has smashed 3 fifties and 1 century in South Africa. 


1. Virat Kohli

The 'King' Virat Kohli has conveyed South Africa as his backyard, and has a staggering 1,395 runs in 26 innings; the most by any Indian since 2011. Kohli's average is also above par with 63.40, and a  strike rate of 75.36 across all three formats. Moreover, he has 5 centuries & 5 fifties in South Africa.

India's tour of South Africa is set to start from December 26 - the first test match will be played at SuperSport Park, Centurion. Virat Kohli will lead the Indian side while India will take the field without a vice-captain as Rohit Sharma, who was appointed as the new vice-captain, injured himself while practising before leaving for South Africa.
