Though Australian grounds have a reputation for favoring bowlers. But in the recently concluded mega event batters also proved their ability to get past edgy bowlers and make runs for their team. Let's take a look at tournaments' Top 5 batters who bewildered their opponents and hammered them all along the ground. 

  • Virat Kohli: India's flamboyant batsman Kohli wasn't having good form and was going through a lean patch before the World Cup but the batter proved his class right in the very first match of the T20 World Cup against Pakistan with his 82 runs masterclass in 53 balls he clarified his intentions well. In the tournament overall, he smacked 296 runs in 6 innings at an average of 98.36 and a strike rate of 136.40. In the World Cup 2022, the batter registered 4 half-centuries and went unbeaten thrice. He struck 25 fours and 8 sixes. Virat faced a lot of criticism before the World Cup started due to having given a befitting reply to his critics. Due to his fine batting and ability to build partnerships by converting his innings into big scores, he became the first batter in the World to get 4000 plus T20I runs in 107 innings where his average was 52.73.

  • Max ODowd: The Dutch player impressed the cricket fraternity with his rich form and amazing batting in the T20 World Cup 2022. ODowd was the second-leading run-getter of the tournament with 242 runs in 8 innings where he played at an average of 34.57 and smashed. ODowd played match-winning knocks against Zimbabwe and also contributed to the team's awestruck win over South Africa. The Dutch batter got 2 half-centuries and remained unbeaten at 1 moment. Despite the big names in the tournament, the flamboyant batsman outshined everyone else to finish second in the batting line-up.

  • Suryakumar Yadav: The stylish middle-order batter has evolved into the new Mr 360 degree in recent cricket. Surya is the world's number one T20 batter at the moment and has played dazzling innings in the Super 12 stage to help the Indian side qualify for the semi-finals of the Men's T20 World Cup 2022. The batter played at an average of 59.75 and scored 239 runs in 6 innings where his strike rate was red hot 189.68. He nailed 3 half-centuries and got 22 fours and 9 sixes in his sizzling tournament. Surya wasn't able to deliver runs in the semis which resulted in the team's thrashing defeat against England.

  • Jos Buttler: Someone has rightly said that better late than never. England team skipper Jos Buttler wasn't looking in good form in the first 4 matches of the World Cup where he was able to register 119 runs and that-to without any big knocks. But then the captain shifted his gears and in the last two matches, he not only took his team to the final but also made his team the world champion, thanks to his scintillating innings of 80 runs in 49 balls against India in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Buttler secured the fourth spot in the tournament's leading run scorers chart by hitting 225 runs in 65 innings and getting runs at an average of 45.00. Buttler notched runs at a strike rate of 144.23 which also includes 2 fifties. 

  • Kusal Mendis: Sri Lanka's lone batter who was able to show intent and got the highest run for the Lankan team and fifth highest in the tournament. The top-order batter serrated 223 runs in 8 innings at an average of 31.85 and struck at a rate of 142.94. Kusal recorded 2 fifties and hammered 17 fours and 10 sixes while getting not-out on one occasion. Though the Asia Cup 2022 Champions had some issues throughout this competition. The Sri Lankan team had a difficult time qualifying in the Super 12 stage, which was followed by poor play in the Group stage games where they faced an upset against Namibia but Kusal remained consistent throughout the big event.
