CPL 2022 BR vs GT: A smashing half-century by opener Brandon King and impressive bowling by Fabian Allen and Nicolson Gordon pulled off an upset on favourites Barbados Royals, taking Jamaica Tallwahs to their first CPL title since 2016 and their third title overall. Shamarh Brooks, who scored a ton in the playoffs against Guyana Amazon Warriors, contributed handsomely with a 33-ball-47 run knock as Jamaica Tallawahs managed to chase down 122 with 3.5 overs in hand.
After opting to bat first, Royals' openers - Rahkeem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers gave an explosive start, adding 63 runs in 5.5 overs. Cornwall was dismissed on the last delivery of the powerplay by spinner Fabian Allen after scoring 36 runs. Skipper Kyle Mayers (29) was also dismissed by Fabian Allen as the spinner led the Tallwahs' comeback after a grainy start.
Jason Holder and Azam Khan then etched 48 runs for the third wicket but as Holder was dismissed by Imad Wasim in the 15th over, the Barbados Royals managed a below-par total of 161 for 7 wickets. Apart from Fabian Allen, right-arm fast-medium bowler Nicholson Gordon also picked up 3 wickets.
