Nottingham, Aug 30 (IANS) Despite suffering a mid-innings collapse, England managed to reach 227 runs in 50 overs before being bowled out by India in the third One-Day International (ODI) at Trent Bridge here Saturday.

After getting off to a brilliant start with openers Alastair Cook (44) and Alex Hales getting an 82-run first-wicket partnership, the home team looked well on their way to a big score.

However, Indian bowlers struck regularly and reduced England to 149/6 in 36 overs. The English lower order offered some resistance in the form of wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler (42) and James Tredwell (30) which helped them cross the 200-run mark.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers as he notched 3/39 from his 10 overs.

India currently lead the five-match series 1-0.

Brief scores: England 227 in 50 overs (Alastair Cook 44, Alex Hales 42, Jos Buttler 42; Ravichandran Ashwin 3/39) vs India.
