How Dilip Kumar Helped Yashpal Sharma To Get Into Indian Team
Former India batsman and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team Yashpal Sharma, who passed away on Tuesday, had credited late Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar for recommending his name to the Indian cricket board for a spot in the national team. The Bollywood giant passed away only last week aged of 98.
"Sometimes future talent is picked by people from other fields. You call him Dilip saab (his screen name); I call him Yusuf saab (his original name). Yusuf saab brought a turning point in my life. I remember I was a Ranji Trophy player and that year my team Punjab had progressed to knockouts where they played Uttar Pradesh," Sharma had recently told Navbharat Gold.
