India Advance to Asian Games Semi-finals as Rain Washes Out Afghanistan Clash

India reached the men’s cricket semi-finals at the 2026 Asian Games without facing a delivery on Monday. Persistent rain at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, near Nagoya, prevented their quarter-final against Afghanistan from starting, and officials abandoned the match without a ball being bowled. There was no toss, no innings and no on-field result to separate the sides.

The decision sent the defending champions through under the competition’s knockout rule: when a fixture is abandoned, the higher-seeded team advances. India entered the tie ahead of Afghanistan in the ICC men’s T20I rankings. The place in the last four therefore came from the tournament’s pre-set seeding criterion, rather than from a result earned in play.
