Asian Games: Japan Ends China's Men's TT Team Reign, Chinese Women Retain Title
Kim Kum Yong: Japan ended China's long dominance of the men's table tennis team event at the 2026 Asian Games on Thursday, winning a dramatic final 3-2 to claim its first title in 60 years, while China retained the women's crown with a 3-0 victory over Japan.
China had won the men's team title at eight consecutive Asian Games, but Japan ended that run after Sora Matsushima defeated Wen Ruibo 3-1 in the deciding match.
China had taken an early lead through World No. 1 Wang Chuqin, who recovered from two games down against Matsushima to win 3-2. Matsushima took the opening two games 11-5, 11-8 before Wang won the next three by identical 11-9 scores.
