On reaching Kensington Oval, the cortege passed through a moving guard of honour formed by cricketers holding their bats aloft. Sobers was later laid to rest at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Among those attending the funeral were Barbados President Jeffrey Bostic, Prime Minister Mia Mottley, Sir Clive Lloyd, Desmond Haynes, Brian Lara and global music icon Rihanna. In a remarkable gesture, the West Indies team completed their Test victory over Pakistan at Trouba inside four days, allowing players and officials to attend the funeral.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the farewell was its global reach. The funeral was live streamed worldwide, while Lord's joined the tributes by screening the ceremony live in the historic Long Room through the efforts of the Barbados High Commission. The gathering included former England captain Mike Gatting and several members of the MCC. A portrait of Sobers, painted by Raphael in 1992 at Lord’s, was placed prominently before the famous Long Room doors through which Sobers had walked countless times. It was a poignant tribute to a cricketer who averaged an extraordinary 95 in five Test matches at Lord's.
