India did not have much of a choice. Venkataraman Subramanya bowled some seam, but they needed another new-ball bowler. Pataudi asked reserve wicketkeeper Budhi Kunderan what he bowled. Kunderan himself had no idea. The next morning, Pataudi asked Kunderan to open bowling for India in a Test match.

However, Farokh Engineer impressed the English cricket fraternity greatly. Hampshire, Somerset, and Worcestershire were all keen acquiring him, but he eventually signed a contract with Lancashire. He played for them from 1968 to 1976.

Series Result

  • First Test, Leeds - England won by 6 wickets
  • Second Test, Lords - England won by an innings and 124 runs
  • Third Test, Birmingham - England won by 132 runs
