In reply, captain Rohit Sharma smacked his 9th Test ton. Ravindra Jadeja scored 70 runs on his comeback while Axar Patel scored 84 runs, batting at #9. Mohammed Shami also contributed with 37 runs. For Australia, debutant Todd Murphy picked up 7 wickets. When Australia came out to bat again, Ashwin struck with 5 wickets as the visitors were bowled out for just 91 runs.

With this win, India are well on the path to confirming their spot in the WTC finals. With their 9th win in the ongoing WTC cycle, India's Win PCT has climbed to 61.67. If the hosts manage to win 2 more Tests in this series, they will move to the top spot and qualify for the WTC finals without being dependent on any other teams' results.
