Manchester, June 18 (CRICKETNMORE): England and their captain Eoin Morgan re-wrote record books in a scintillating batting display to flatten Afghanistan by 150 runs in a World Cup clash here on Tuesday and to zoom to the top of the points table.
Morgan hit 17 sixes in his knock of 148 off 71 balls, the most in an ODI, as pre-tournament favourites England racked up the highest total of 397/6 in this World Cup so far, batting first.
Afghanistan gave a good account of themselves but were never really in the chase, ending up at 247/8 in 50 overs. Hashmatullah Shahidi top-scored for the bottom-placed team, who are yet to win a game, with a gritty 76 off 100 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes as Asghar Afghan, who was dropped by Jonny Bairstow on 28, made 44 off 48 balls (3x4, 2x6) while Rahmat Shah also scored 46 off 74 balls (3x4, 1x6).
