New Zealand lost their first wicket - Will Young - just before the end of day 4, leaving the score 4/1 while chasing 284 runs in the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. To negotiate the final over of the day, New Zealand sent in nightwatchman William Somerville.
On day 5, Somerville along with opener Tom Latham survived the entire 1st session. Somerville looked comfortable throughout his stay at the crease and was defending well. Even to get him out, India had to do something special.
On the first ball after Lunch, Umesh Yadav bowled a bouncer and Somerville decided to pull but he couldn't time it perfectly and it went towards the fine leg where Shubman Gill was standing.
Umesh breaks stubborn stand after the break. Gill dives forward for a lovely low catch.
