On Wednesday, the England batter smacked 86 runs in just 38 balls with the help of nine fours and seven sixes.
Pietersen began cautiously in the first five overs of the 150-run chase but his eyes widened as soon as he saw left-arm spinner Sanath Jayasuriya warming up to bowl the sixth over. He smashed the first ball for four, second over the boundary towards long-off, four towards sweeper cover, again a boundary towards deep mid-wicket. On the last two balls, Pietersen smashed two sixes to make it a 30-run over.
Then there was no stopping the Englishman as he got to 86 runs but couldn't finish as Muttiah Muralitharan got him out caught. But the damage had already been done and World Giants had no problem reaching the target.
