Kapil Dev was way ahead of his time. He was an aggressive player and still one of the all-time greatest all-rounders ever to play cricket.

He played some great matches, played some magical innings, bowled some unplayable spells, but some small moments still remain intact in the minds of the viewers - one such moment is Kapil Dev hitting four sixes to avoid the follow-on.

It was against England, at Lord's, in 1990. England had posted 633 runs in the first innings after opting to bat first, courtesy of captain Graham Gooch's incredible triple century and Allan Lamb & Robin Smith's ton.

Although Ravi Shastri and Mohammad Azharuddin also hit centuries, but the lack of support from the rest wasn't good enough for India to come close to England's total. India were reeling at 430/9 before Kapil Dev came to the rescue.

India needed 24 runs to avoid the follow-on before Kapil Dev decided to smack Eddie Hemmings for four sixes. For the first two sixes, Kapil came down the track and hit Hemmings over the long-on. The third one was a bit flat but still went over long-on. The fourth six went miles in the air - the longest of them all.

As soon as Kapil Dev hit the fourth one, he punched the air in celebration, and all the players on the Lord's balcony clapped, and the crowd cheered.

Unfortunately, India couldn't avoid the defeat as they lost the test by 247 runs with Gooch scoring another hundred in the 2nd innings. But the game will be forever remembered for Kapil Dev's four sixes.
