In the ongoing first Ashes test match between, Australia restricted England to 147/10 in mere 50.1 overs. Aussie skipper Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 5 wickets. However, the 22-year-old Cameron Green was finally able to pick up his first test scalp for Australia.

English batter Ollie Pope came out to bat when England was in deep trouble at 29/4 in 12.4 overs. However, Pope held one end with patience as he stitched a partnership of 31 runs with Hameed and then 52 runs with Jos Buttler. Pope scored 35 runs off 79 balls with 2 fours, and he faced the most balls in the English batting lineup.

On the first ball of 43rd over, Green pitched a short delivery ball towards Pope. The English batter went for the pull but could only manage the thick top-edge of the bat. Josh Hazlewood was fielding at deep fine leg and covered a lot of ground to reach the ball, completing the catch with a dive.

This bagged Cameron Green his maiden wicket in test cricket for Australia. This all-rounder had already made a decent start to his career with 3 fifties in 4 matches against India in the Border-Gavaskar trophy. However, he went wicketless in the series and was finally able to pick his first scalp in the first Ashes test against England.

Talking about the match, England captain Joe Root won the toss & opted to bat first against Australia in the first Ashes Test. This decision proved to be disastrous for England as Mitchell Starc bowled Rory Burns on the first ball of the match. England kept struggling until they were all out for 147 just before Tea. Due to bad weather, the play was stopped earlier than the scheduled time and Australia will come out to bat tomorrow.
