Another reason behind this move could be Joe Root's motive to complete the overs as soon as possible since they have already been docked points & fees penalties due to slow over-rate in the first test. The English team is playing 4 fast bowlers in their playing XI, with captain Joe Root as the only option in the case of spin bowlers.

The hosts didn't enforce the follow on and declared their second innings at 230/9. England are at 82/4 on Stumps at Day 4, with Ben Stokes on strike; Joe Root was dismissed in the last over of the day.
