Supernovas Clinch Women's T20 Challenge 2022 Title With A Thrilling 4 Run Win Against Velocity

Supernovas clinched their third title in four editions as they halted Velocity to 161/8 in 20 over in Women's T20 Challenge 2022 final, winning the match by 4 runs.

Women's T20 Challenge 2022 - In a thrilling final, Supernovas clinched their third title in four editions as they halted Velocity to 161/8 in 20 over, winning the match by 4 runs.

After Velocity were 64/5 in 11 overs while chasing a target of 166, Laura Wolvaardt etched a partnership of 40 runs in 27 deliveries for the 6th wicket. Wolvaardt maintained her good form as he continued to smack the Supernovas bowlers from one end. 

Simran Bahadur, who came out to bat at #10, brought the game close as she etched an unbeaten partnership of 44 runs in 19 deliveries with Laura Wolvaardt for the 9th wicket. Velocity required 34 runs to win off the last two overs, and Simran took charge as she smacked 17 runs in the 19th over against Pooja Vastrakar. 

In the last over, the equation came down to 7 runs in 2 deliveries, where Supernovas bowler Sophie Ecclestone conceded just a single of the second last bowl, as the chasing team required 6 runs to win off the last ball, ultimately winning by 4 runs and winning their third title. 

For Supernovas, Alana King picked up 3 wickets and Sophie Eccleston & Deandra Dottin picked up 2 wickets each. Pooja Vastrakar also picked up 1 wicket but went for 32 runs in 3 overs. 

In the first innings, After Deandra Dottin and Harmanpreet Kaur played explosive knocks, Velocity bowlers pulled back in the last 6 overs, limiting Supernovas to 165/7 in 20 overs in the Final of Women's T20 Challenge 2022. 

Openers Priya Punia and Deandra Dottin added 73 runs for the first wicket in 9.2 overs. Priya was dismissed in the 10th over by Simran Bahadur after scoring 28 runs in 29 deliveries with 2 sixes. 

Supernovas captain Harmanpreet Kaur came on to bat at # and played an explosive knock of 43 runs in 29 deliveries, etching a partnership of 58 runs in 36 deliveries for the second wicket Deandra Dottin. Dottin was dismissed by Velocity captain Deepti Sharma in the 15th over which triggered a batting collapse. 

Supernovas went on to lose 5 wickets in a space of just 34 runs in the last 5 overs. For Velocity, Kate Cross, Deepti Sharma & Simran Bahadur picked up 2 wickets each while Ayabonga Khaka managed 1 wicket. Skipper Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, conceding only 20 runs in 4 overs while managing the important wicket of Deandra Dottin.

Earlier, Velocity captain Deepti Sharma won the toss & opted to field first against Supernovas in the final of the Women's T20 Challenge 2022. This match was played at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
