T20 World Cup: In the group 1 match of the T20 World Cup 2022, England defeated New Zealand by 20 runs. With this result, things have become tougher in the 'Group of Death', where New Zealand, England and Australia are all in the hunt for a semi-finals spot in T20 World Cup 2022. 

Chasing 180 to win, New Zealand lost openers Devon Conway (3) and Finn Allen (16) inside the powerplay. From there, man-in-form Glenn Phillips and captain Kane Williamson held the crease as these two etched a partnership of 91 runs in 59 balls for the 3rd wicket.

The partnership was finally broken by Ben Stokes as the Kiwi captain departed in the 15th over after scoring 40 runs off 40 balls with 3 fours. Glenn carried on at the other end but Sam Curran and Mark Wood grabbed two quick wickets in the 16th and 17th overs. 

Glenn Phillips on the other hand was dismissed in the 18th over after scoring 62 runs off just 36 balls with 4 fours & 3 sixes. Sam Currant grabbed this important wicket to ensure a crucial win for the English team. For England, Currant and Woakes grabbed 2 wickets each while Mark wood and Ben Stokes picked up 1 wicket each. 

In the first innings, England openers Alex Hales and Jos Buttler smacked fifties to power England to 179/6 against New Zealand in the Group 1 Super 12 match of T20 World Cup 2022. 

Opening the innings, England's openers added 81 runs for the 1st wicket. Alex Hales was dismissed in the 11th over after scoring 52 runs off 40 balls with 7 fours & a six. Buttler continued on the other end while England continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. 

Moeen Ali (5) and Liam Livingstone (20) didn't contribute much. Buttler carried on as he smashed 73 runs off just 47 balls with 7 fours & 2 sixes before getting dismissed in the 19th over. 

For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson picked up 2 wickets while Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi managed 1 wicket each.

Earlier, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss & opted to bat first against New Zealand in the Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022. This match is being played at The Gabba, Brisbane.
