Paarl Royals were beaten comprehensively in their first game this season, against MI Cape Town. However, this will be a home game and the Royals would be expected to bounce back. In their first game, Jos Buttler scored 51 runs off 42 deliveries (4x6,6x1) while captain David Millers contributed with 42 runs off 31 balls (4x4,6x1). None of the other batters were able to cross even the 20-run mark which ultimately meant a small total. The likes of Wihan Lubbe, Jason Roy, Dane Vilas and experience Eoin Morgan would have to step up to register a win on their home turf. 

With a small total to defend, the bowlers couldn't do much as the opposition's Dewald Brevis smacked them all over the park. Codi Yusuf and West Indies' youngster pacer Ramon Simmons managed a wicket each while Bjorn Fortuin, Ferisoc Adams and Tabraiz Shami went wicketless. Royals would hope for the likes of Andile Phehlukwayo & Lungi Ngidi to return. 

Joburg Super Kings on the other hand, registered a win in their first game this season, in the away game against Durban Super Giants. While the top order failed miserably, losing 4 wickets inside the powerplay, captain Faf du Plessis tried to stabilize the innings with his knock of 39 runs in 33 balls. However, Donovan Ferreira and Romario Shepherd released the fireworks down the order. Ferreira smashed an unbeaten 82 runs in 40 balls with 8 fours & 5 sixes, while Shepherd scored 40 runs in 20 balls with 2 fours & 4 sixes. 

With 190 to defend on a tough pitch, the bowlers failed to grab an early wicket. However, the bowlers stepped up in the 2nd half of the innings and managed to win by 16 runs. Alzarri Joseph picked up 2 wickets while Malusi Siboto, Donovan Ferreira and Aaron Phangiso managed 1 wicket each.
