Ravichandran Ashwin is known as one of the 'nerds of cricket' for his detailed knowledge of everything related to the sport. One of the advantages of having deep knowledge, especially the laws of cricket is one can argue with the umpire confidently.

On day 3, R Ashwin and umpire Nitin Menon talked a lot throughout the 1st hour of the play. They had been talking on day 2 as well for the same reason. But what exactly is the reason?

Ashwin has been bowling from around the wicket to make use of the rough. He has been bowling at a different angle than normal in this test from that side. Due to this angle, he has to finish his follow-through diagonally.

The diagonal follow-through is disturbing three things: a) he is marginally going towards the danger area, not into the area but almost b) he is coming in the line of sight of the umpire c) he is finishing the follow-through where the non-striker is standing.

The speculation over the argument was Ashwin coming in the line of sight of the umpire however umpire Menon was asking Ashwin not to do this follow-through since he was coming in front of the non-striker.

Ashwin eventually changed his follow through and the discussion was ended peacefully.
