On the opening day of the first test match between India & New Zealand - India were in a spot of bother at 145/4. Then came the debutant Shreyas Iyer, who scored an unbeaten fifty and along with Ravindra Jadeja, has stitched a partnership of 113 runs at stumps on Day 1. 

Shreyas Iyer has scored 75* in 136 balls, with 5 boundaries. After he became the 303rd player to represent India in international test cricket, he came to bat at #5 and scored this fifty. Iyer was given this chance after KL Rahul was ruled out of the series due to injury.

After Iyer's knock, Twitter is filled with praises for the Mumbai-born 26-year-old batter. While Ponting expressed his pride, 'Hitman' Rohit Sharma also took to the social media site to applaud the youngster, who made his debut backing on his fabulous First-Class cricket records.

While talking about the match, Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss & opted to bat first against New Zealand in the first test of the 2-match series. This match is being played at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur.

India, after a few early hiccups, were at the score of 258/4 at Stumps. Along with Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja (50*) is at the crease and these two together would look to stitch a commendable score on Day 2.
