Dewald Brevis' Fireworks Help MI Cape Town Down Paarl Royals By 8 Wickets In SA20 Opening Fixture

MICT vs PR: The opening fixture saw an amazing batting display from 19-year-old South African Dewald Brevis, who smacked a thunderous ton as MI Cape Town registered an 8-wicket win against Paarl Royals in the opening fixture of the inaugural SA20 league. MI Cape Town chased down the target with 27 deliveries in hand. 

Chasing a modest 143 runs to win, MI Cape Town openers Dewald Brevis and Ryan Rickelton gave excellent starts, adding 90 runs in 10.3 overs for the first wicket. Ryan Rickelton was dismissed by young West Indians Ramon Simmonds after scoring 42 runs off 33 balls with 5 fours & a six. 

Brevis continued smashing at the other end, remaining unbeaten till the run chase was completed. Brevis remained not out after smacking 70 runs off 41 balls with 4 fours & 5 sixes, batting at a strike rate of 170.73. Sam Curran, batting at #3, scored 20 runs from 16 balls while Rassie van der Dussen scored an unbeaten 8 runs off 3 balls. For Paarl Royals, Codi Yusuf and Ramon Simmonds picked up 1 wicket each. 

In the first innings, Royals' opener Jos Buttler scored 51 runs off 42 balls (4x6,6x1) while captain David Miller scored 42 runs in 31 balls (4x4,6x1). The other batters failed to contribute considerably and the Paarl Royals batting unit looked meek in front of the MI bowling attack.

Returning to cricket action after 18 months, Jofra Archer picked up 3 wickets and was the top wicket-taker for MI Cape Town. Olly Stone picked up 2 wickets while Duan Jansen managed 1 wicket. Earlier, MI Cape Town captain Rashid Khan won the toss & opted to bowl first against Paarl Royals in the opening fixture of the SA20 league. This match was played at Newlands, Cape Town.
