Delhi Capitals made an impressive start to their campaign in WPL 2023 as they downed a strong-looking opposition by 60 runs in their first match. Batting first, the openers - captain Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma added 162 runs in 14.2 overs to put Delhi ahead from the start. Marizanne Kapp (39* off 17 balls) and Jemimah Rodrigues (22* runs off 15 balls) provided excellent finishing as Delhi posted 223/2, the highest total ever in Women's T20 at Brabourne Stadium. 

Delhi was the only team to pick an associate nation player in the WPL, and their move paid off in the very first match as USA's Tara Norris grabbed the first 5-fer in the history of the Women's Premier League. Alice Capsey, who didn't get a chance with the bat, stepped up with the ball to pick up 2 wickets in 2 overs. Shikha Pandey managed a wicket as well as Delhi managed to halt the opposition before the set target. 

UP Warriorz also had a winning start to their WPL 2023 tournament as Australian all-rounder Grace Harris powered them to an unlikely win. Chasing 170 runs to win, openers Alyssa Healy (7) and Shweta Sehrawat (5) were dismissed early. Kiran Navgire scored 53 off 43 while batting at #3. Tahlia McGrath was dismissed for a golden duck while Deepti Sharma managed just 11 runs. After being at 105/7 in 15.4 overs, requiring 65 runs to win in 26 deliveries, Grace Harris thrashed the bowlers all around and achieved the target with 1 delivery remaining. Harris remained unbeaten on 59 runs in 26 balls while Sophie Ecclestone also contributed with 22* runs in 12 balls. 

In the bowling department, Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone led the spin department as both of them grabbed two wickets each while conceding 27 and 25 runs in 4 overs each. However, Rajeshwari Gayakwad was ineffective, conceding 30 runs in 4 overs without a wicket. Anjali Sarvani gave away 43 runs in 4 overs for a wicket while Tahlia McGrath also registered a wicket.
