In a major update coming in from Mumbai, the newly appointed test vice-captain and limited overs' captain Rohit Sharma, has suffered an injury and is ruled out of the 3 test series against South Africa starting from December 26.

Rohit Sharma was rested for the 2-match test series against New Zealand owing to workload management; and was practising at Bandra Kurla Complex for the last one week, where he suffered this injury.

It's still not clear if 'Hitman' will be available for the three ODI-match series as well, a format where he was recently handed the captain's role. As we await official confirmation from BCCI, it can be said with surety that India A captain Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the squad. As far as vice-captaincy goes, it's anyone's guess. Ajinkya Rahane might be handed the responsibility again.

Priyank Panchal led India A in the recently concluded three 4-day matches series against South Africa A. He has scored 120 runs for India A averaging 40 in 3 innings with a top score of 96. He has also played in 100 First-Class matches and has registered 7,011 runs averaging 45.52, with 24 centuries to his name.
