In 1987 ICC World Cup, 8 teams participated which were grouped into two groups of 4 team each - Group A & Group B.

From Group A, India and Australia where as Pakistan and England from Group B qualified for the semi-finals. Australia beat Pakistan by 18 runs and England beat India by 35 runs in the second semi-final to enter the final of 1987 World Cup. Australia won the final at Eden Gardens, Kolkata by 7 runs to lift the title.
