In 1979 ICC World Cup, 8 teams participated which were grouped into two groups of 4 team each - Group A & Group B.
From Group A, England and Pakistan where as West Indies and New Zealand from Group B qualified for the semi-finals. England beat New Zealand by 9 runs in the first semi-final and West Indies won the second semi-final against Pakistan by 43 runs to enter the final of 1979 World Cup. West Indies won the final at Lords by 92 runs to lift the title.
