Brisbane, Dec 18 (CRICKETNMORE): Pakistan's veteran batsman Younis Khan's mode of dismissal on the fourth day of the first cricket Test against Australia prompted legend Waqar Younis on Sunday to criticise the right-hander.

After a golden duck in the first innings, Younis played a composed innings to notch up the 32nd Test match half-century of his career on Sunday.

Pakistan were chasing a big target of 490 runs and were reduced to 165/4.

Younis used all his experience to score 65 but -- with Australia five-and-half overs away from taking the new ball -- he tried an ill-advised reverse sweep off spinner Nathan Lyon and was caught at first slip by Steve Smith.

It pushed Pakistan deeper into trouble at 173/5 in their battle to save the match.

Khan's thought process of trying such an audacious shot, with his team in deep trouble, left Waqar flabbergasted.

"That is ridiculous. That is so irresponsible," the former fast bowler said on Channel Nine, as quoted by Cricket Australia on Sunday.

"A man with so much experience, you don't need to do that. 'What was the need? Pakistan needed you to be out there and you've played a false shot. Yeah, he's got 65 but a very poor shot."

The wicket left Pakistan at 173/5 with two new batsmen at the crease under lights to face the new pink ball at the ongoing day-night Test.

"I'm concerned about how Younis played," Waqar said.

"Two balls before, the ball had landed in the rough and spun sharply, the extra bounce was there. Then this... he was not in control at all. And I'm lost for words. Ridiculous."
