23rd July (CRICKETNMORE) - The young breed of crickters is dominating the cricketing world. After a brilliant double century by Indian skipper Virat Kohli against West Indies on Friday, Its now the turn of another modern era Englsih player Joe Root who hit the double century against Pakistan in the second test at Old Trafford on Saturday. He became only the third England player to smash two double centuries in Test cricket.

Joe Root is considered one of the best batsman in the modern era. Along with Virat Kohli, Steven Smith and Kane Williamson, Root has been consistent across all formats.

On the second day of the second Test between England and Pakistan in Old Trafford, Root scored his second double century in Tests. In the process, he created several records in the process.

He is 3rd English batsmen who have notched up two or more double centuries in Tests. He joined the elite company of England skipper Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen who have smashed three and two double tons respectively. Also Check  England vs Pakistan 2nd Test Scorecard

Joe Root has become the fourth batsmen to score a double century against Pakistan in Tests. Denis Compton(278), Alastair Cook (263) and Ted Dexter (205) were the other players to do so.
