Sydney, March 26 (IANS) Supremely confident after masterminding Australia's passage to the cricket World Cup final, middle-order batsman Steven Smith led the team's war cry for Sunday's summit clash against New Zealand after downing India in the semi-final on Thursday.
Smith played a fluent knock of 105 runs to guide Australia to the final at the expense of defending champions India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday. He was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his efforts.
Choosing to bat first Australia piled on a huge 328 for seven, courtesy knocks from Smith and opener Aaron Finch (81). India failed to chase down the imposing target and were skittled out for 233 in 46.5 overs.
"We thought 330 was around par score. We knew we had to bowl and field well and you know the boys did a terrific job tonight. Bring on Melbourne. It's nice to contribute to a few wins," said Smith.
"It was a pretty big stage tonight, semi-final of a World Cup and just happy that we got over the line in the end."
The 25-year-old said he would like to score heavily in the final and added he couldn't wait to get on-field come Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
"Hopefully, another big hundred would be nice. It's going to be an amazing moment to play a World Cup final against New Zealand at the MCG," he said.
"Can't wait to get down there. New Zealand have played some very good cricket throughout this tournament. It's going to be nice to get them on our conditions at the MCG. Hopefully, we can put on a show for everyone that comes out down there,” he concluded.
