New Delhi, July 12 (CRICKETNMORE) India men's cricket team skipper Virat Kohli led others in congratulating his women's counterpart Mithali Raj moments after she broke the world record by becoming the highest run-getter in One-day International (ODI) cricket, surpassing former England captain Charlotte Edwards's record of 5992 runs.

Mithali, during her knock of 69 during India's ongoing World Cup group match against Australia at Bristol, got past Edwards's mark and also became the first woman to breach the 6000-run mark.

"A great moment for Indian Cricket, @M_Raj03 becomes the highest run scorer in women's ODI cricket history today. Champion Stuff!" Kohli tweeted.

 

Most of current female cricketers are way behind Mithali in the number of runs she has amassed. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also congratulated the India women's captain.

"Congratulations to #MithaliRaj on breaking Charlotte Edwards's record for most runs in women's ODIs," ICC's official twitter handle read.

Former India coach and legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble said: "Wonderful to hear that @M_Raj03 has become the all-time highest run-scorer in women's ODIs. Congratulations!"

 

India's Test vice captain Ajinkya Rahane and former India batsman Mohammad Kaif also wished the 34-year-old batswoman.

"Mithali Raj becomes the highest run scorer in women's ODI cricket history today. Super achievement!" Rahane tweeted.

"Congratulations legend Mithali Raj @M_Raj03 on becoming the highest run scorer in Women ODIs. All time great. Wish the team the best#IndvAus," tweted Kaif
