Post the Ashes loss, England dropped James Anderson and Stuart Broad from the test squad in order to bring in a young bowling attack for the future.
It was a massive omission that led to massive uproar and criticism against the then England management, including the then test captain, Joe Root. Following yet another poor series against West Indies, Root stepped down as the captain, and Ben Stokes was appointed.
