The hosts were India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. As per schedule, Australia and West Indies were to play one match each in Colombo. Due to the civil war-like situation and a bomb blast two weeks before the tournament, concerns arose about the teams' safety in Sri Lanka. As a result, both teams refused to play in Colombo and forfeited their match points.
