US Open: ‘I did everything in a rush,’ says Alcaraz on first-set loss to Faria in opener (New York: US Open 2026 - Mens Singles)
Arthur Ashe Stadium: Carlos Alcaraz acknowledged he was 'doing everything in a rush' in the first set against Jaime Faria but noted that increased patience and extended rallies enabled him to turn the match around and progress smoothly into the third round of the US Open.
The defending champion bounced back after losing the first set to beat Portugal’s Faria 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Speaking after the match, Alcaraz said he quickly realised that his opening-set approach was not working and that he needed to change the tempo of the contest.
