The first Test between the West Indies and Pakistan at Tarouba will be remembered for one of the most extraordinary bowling spells in Test history. West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves became the first bowler on record to deliver five consecutive wicket maidens, claiming his maiden Test five-wicket haul, in his 17th Test. .

Pakistan was cruising at 244/3 with captain Shan Masood well set before Greaves triggered an extraordinary collapse.

It completed an unprecedented sequence of five successive wicket maidens—the first in Test history. The previous best-known sequence was Stuart Broad's four consecutive wicket maidens against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2016.

Greaves finished with 5/27, with all 27 runs coming in his first six wicketless overs, as Pakistan were dismissed for 282.

He also became the 11th West Indian to score a Test double century and claim a Test five-wicket haul.

Greaves has developed a habit of rescuing West Indies from difficult situations. Last year, his unbeaten 202 at Christchurch lifted West Indies from 72/4, while chasing an improbable 531, to a remarkable draw against New Zealand. Only a few days before his Tarouba heroics, he struck 180 against Sri Lanka, helping West Indies recover from 144/4 to 499.

Greaves is only the second player in Test history to score a fourth-innings double century and claim a Test five-wicket haul. He might even have taken six wickets in succession had Roston Chase not introduced Jayden Seales into the attack.

Greaves is the 10th bowler to take five or more wickets in succession without conceding a run (including Jermaine Lawson, who took six), but the first to achieve it through five consecutive wicket maidens.

Hugh Tayfield (South Africa vs New Zealand, Johannesburg, 1953-54): 4.3-4-0-5 (eight-ball overs).

The Tarouba Test was also only the sixth in Test history in which all 40 wickets fell to pace bowlers—remarkably, only a few days after England vs New Zealand at Lord's in 2026.
