Interesting Facts, Trivia, And Records About '6ft 8 inch Tall' Kyle Jamieson

It's been more than a year since Kyle Jamieson made his first appearance in international cricket. Making his debut against India, Jamieson instantly grabbed the headlines as he scalped Virat Kohli as his maiden test wicket. Since then, everywhere he goes, headlines follow; be it international cricket or IPL. 

Here are some interesting trivia, stats, and records by Kyle Jamieson: 

1) Kyle Jamieson used to play in the top order when he played for Auckland Grammar first XI before moving to Christchurch on a Scholarship to study Bachelor of Commerce. 

2) Jamieson had a forgettable first-class debut for Canterbury against Wellington in 2014, when he failed to take a wicket in 30-odd overs and scored a duck.

3) One thing that is unique about him is his height. Jamieson is 6ft 8 inches tall, almost the same as the height of legendary Joel Garner, and is the second tallest player currently after Pakistan's Mohammad Irfan. 

4) Jamieson once smashed a 110-ball century against England in an unofficial game while facing the likes of James Anderson and Mark Wood. His onslaught grabbed the attention of New Zealand and fast-tracked him in international cricket. 

5) RCB's current coach Mike Hesson had predicted the Jamieson storm back in 2019. "An impressive bowler who at 6ft 8in can swing it....another one to add to the Black Caps stable", Hesson had said. Interestingly, in IPL 2021 Auction, Hesson's RCB, led by Virat Kohli, picked Jamieson for a whopping 15 crores. 

6) His father, Michael Jamieson, used to play domestic cricket. He was a premier batter for Papatoetoe. 

7) Kyle Jamieson represented New Zealand in the 2014 under-19 world cup. 

8) Jamieson had the backing of Gary Stead right from his Canterbury days. Stead is now New Zealand's head coach as well. 

9) He started out as a batting all-rounder, but in 2012, he was slowly converted to become a bowler under the guardianship of bowling coach, Dayle Hadlee, brother of Richard Hadlee.

10) Jamieson recorded the third-best bowling figures in T20 history when he took 6 wickets for seven runs in the Super Smash tournament.
