1) Manjrekar was born in Mangalore, Karnataka, in 1965 to Vijay Manjrekar - former Indian cricketer and possibly one of the best Indian batters of his era. 

2) Sanjay rose through the ranks after scoring heaps of runs in the domestic tournaments and was hailed as the next Sunil Gavaskar of Indian cricket due to his classy and solid technique. 

3) The right-handed batter made his first-class debut for Bombay in 1985 and scored a valuable 57 to help his team reach the semi-final after defeating Haryana. 

4) Manjrekar made his international debut in 1987 against West Indies in Delhi. 

5) The debutant Manjrekar was hit on his left eye by the West Indian bowler Winston Benjamin and had to retire hurt. He became the fifth player to get retired hurt on debut. 

6) Manjrekar was a well-known singer in the Indian dressing room. 

7) Sanjay Manjrekar's highest score - 377 - in first-class cricket came against Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy semi-final, in the 1990-91 season. 

8) Manjrekar, who was now in decline in international cricket, captained Mumbai to a Ranji Trophy victory in the 1996-97 season.
