The Beaumont Committee later concluded that Vizzy's captaincy was "disastrous". He was sacked. Amarnath was declared innocent.

But India had one great moment, during the Old Trafford Test match. Vijay Merchant had asked Vizzy to step down as captain. As Merchant and Mushtaq Ali walked out to open, Vizzy asked Mushtaq to run out Merchant. Mushtaq spilled the beans, he and Merchant had a laugh, then they walked out to bat.

India lost the series. The tour was a disaster both and off the field. But Merchant and Mushtaq gave them something to cheer about.
