India vs England, First Test: Joe Root's Record-Breaking Double Ton; India's Historic Loss In Stats

England defeated India in the first of the four test match series at Chennai. Joe Root was awarded Man of the Match for his knock of 218 in the first innings followed by a quickfire 40 in the second.

5)England scored a mammoth total of 578 runs in the first innings. It was the second-highest score by a visiting team against India since 2010. This is also the second-highest score by England in India.

6)Ishant Sharma reached his 300 Test wickets in the match. He became the third Indian pacer to achieve this feat after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan and sixth overall. Although, Sharma's 300 wickets came in 177 innings, which is the slowest by a bowler.

7)Ravichandran Ashwin became the third spinner to take a wicket on the very first ball of an innings in Test cricket. He is the first spinner to achieve this milestone in 114 years.

8)Virat Kohli became the first-ever Indian captain to score a fifty-plus score in the 4th innings at Chennai. Before him, the last captain from any country to do it was Garry Sobers in 1967. No Indian captain has crossed 30 in the fourth innings at Chennai earlier (out of 12 inns).

9)It's only the second time that India has lost a match in India after coming with an away test win. In 1971, India beat England at the Oval and lost their very next test match at Delhi against the same opposition. In 2021, India defeated Australia in Brisbane and lost their next game against England at Chennai.
